Family Life Education in the Reconstruction Program of Liberia: A Youthful Prospective (Part I)

You have probably heard of the phrase: 'Family Life Education', but have you wondered what is Family Life Education? What importance is it in the human resource development and national reconstruction agenda?
Or how and why should it be introduced in a Countries national reconstruction drive? These are some of the questions that ran through my mind when I first heard of it-that which led me to do a research.

Where is it from?
After the fourteen (14) years of civil conflict, there is no doubt that so much of the Liberian life style and standards have been seriously affected as life was lost, infrastructure and other identities destroyed. Not only was there a great loss of lives and properties, but there was also a great neglect of the once respected moral, cultural, religious and educational values across each spectrum of the Liberian society, especially amongst the young people.
As a result, they no longer pay attention to their expected attitudes and behaviors which were once characterized as the reality of Liberian’s value system, and are now deeply involved with various sort of degrading towards the dangerous societal offenses including drug addiction, stealing, gang rape, armed robbery, etc.
Honestly, unless these social vices are eradicate from the youths, nothing essential to family life will contribute to the national reconstruction Program at all.

What’s the problem?
The importance of family life education in the reconstruction drive of Liberia is so essential, especially as the fourteen (14) years of brutal civil conflict took away many lives, damaged millions of dollar worth of properties and caused deep wounds of tribal and family division as well as severe disillusionment in nationalism as the cultural, social, education and academic institution were badly affected.
After the cease fire which brought some relief to Liberians, the sign of relief followed so that the process of national healing, reconciliation and reconstruction would pave the way to national reconstruction in the family business because the family is the nucleus and most important and essential unit of any society.
Certainly, a nation or society that is still hunted by severe tribal and religious divisions resulting into hatred cannot most likely achieve the reality of national reconstruction so easily. It is against this backdrop that the researcher intends to conduct this study

How important is it?
Reconstruction in any nation after a civil conflict does not easily take place when the cardinal issues and the deplorable causes are not realistically identified and necessarily resolved. Family life education which is cardinal to engaging family and their communities of different backgrounds is necessary to restore the broken relationship which involved the close relationship of the tribal groups as it resulted into other social alliances.
Therefore; with the necessary family life education, families, neighborhood and communities will be able to peacefully interact regularly so as to plan the essential projects which they will eventually undertake as a road map to the Country’s overall development agenda. Projects such as community roads, schools, and play grounds, clinics and market places be built eventually for the common good and welfare as they relate to the national reconstruction agenda.
This study is intended to identify means by which cooperatively and collaboratively a relief situation will emerge on to contribute through family life education as a means to reconstruction, as most of the communities in Liberia are into blocks and zone which are headed by local leaders who are charge with the responsibilities to visit homes and families for their contact numbers so as to immediately reach them whenever it is necessary.
This is likely to dispel any level or kind of division as a positive approach to engage in the relevant concrete efforts as a means to the poverty reduction agenda through human resource development and the intangible mean to a common trend in national unification which will eventually and as such very creatively without stressor strains very peacefully set on an actual positive road map to the national reconstruction agenda.

As the residents are to attend regular meetings which will culminate the discussion of important developmental issues as a result of the high level of their mutual understanding and cooperation amongst them to encourage social gathering level as a result of family life education in Liberia, which will take into consideration the construction of community hand pumps, toilets and clinics, and streets to be properly laid out and well maintained for the common good along with sanitation to be regularly monitored especially so around unfinished buildings which are to be cleared and garbage regularly disposed of from work places, streets, school, health centers as well as market places.

Most amazingly, a high percentage of individuals and families have achieved a considerable level of western or traditional education as a major factor which one may associate with the promotion of family life education in Liberia. As a result of the positive role that family life education will play in the homes of families in Liberia, it will positively impact the youths ranging from primary to tertiary level to translate into positive outcomes such as youth participation in community development with their positive contribution to community peace-building intra-school, inter-school and cooperative initiatives; post-war trauma and counseling to avoid rape, armed robbery, murder, divorce and broken relationships.

As more and more young people become aware of the dangerous ricks which are associated with early or per-mature pregnancy and subsequent child-bearing, and resulting in juvenile delinquency, they eventually tend to be negative thinkers as things don’t work well with them. These are the misfortunes family life education will turn away from.

To be continue...

"The Holy Week"

DECEPTION or IGNORANCE?   “HOLY WEEK”    Holy Week as most Christians, and church goers referred to is the week of Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem riding on a horse back- that was the only account in the Bible where Jesus rode a horse- with the locals giving Him a king’s, and a hero’s welcome laying palm branches, and their clothes as they lined up on the road side as if He had conquered a whole army, or came from a battle. They shout with the loudest voice as he decent from mount Olives “ Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.” ( Luk 19:38). The Passion Week, as others calls it continued with teachings, and miracle performed by Jesus; and His betrayal and denial, His death, and His resurrection after the third day. Did he conquer anything? Did He win a battle? Was He a king? The answer to those questions is YES. He conquered fear and accepted to pay for our sins; not with cash, gold, or diamon

CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND ITS IMPACT ON LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT 9(A Youthful Perspective))

I am developing interest in cultural diversity, and what impact it has on us as emerging leaders, and how we can use the experiences and knowledge gained to develop our leadership skills and abilities. It is often said that striving for excellence is the key to becoming a great leader. I believe that leadership does not have a fix definition, and it changes based on one’s own perspective of leadership. The perspectives of leadership can also change based on one’s own culture taking in to consideration its uniqueness, and understanding multi-culture is important in leadership development. A sustainable advantage of globalization depends on the skills and abilities of a leader who can manage diversity. In pursuit of leadership effectiveness in today’s globalize world, We need to be able to understand, and manage culturally diverse setting effectively. Meeting a wide range of people brings different challenges and advantages in terms of ideas, creativities, innovation, and style

Abortion (an unjustifiable Act)

Abortion (an unjustifiable Act) Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can survive on its own, or we will say it is the termination of a child in a mother’s womb before birth. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about spontaneous abortion, also known as miscarriage, which is the unintentional expulsion of an embryo or fetus before the 24 th week of gestation, or therapeutic abortion- less than one-tenth of one percent of the abortions done in the world today- which is performed to preserve the health or life of the mother. More women have an abortion for suitability than women who have an abortion to save their own lives Medical or chemical abortion on the other hand is purposely induced by abortifacent pharmaceuticals-this is what I’m talking about. A question, which will always be argued upon, is whether abortion is justified or not. Others will debate that when the foetus is inside the womb, it is not a person y
